I’ve recently been unable to unsee the constant media trail, of Jonny Depp and Amber heard, their story being played out in the most spectilian of ways. Perhaps some of us can associate with it, perhaps some of us can’t and perhaps this is where the conflict lies. A quote from Anais Nin that reflects this idea as ‘we don’t see things as they are, we see them, as we are’
Being with somebody who is sucked into a spiralling giant hogweed of a blistering mess, you are there at the heart of this crumbling mess and you become increasingly part of the mess and if you weren’t a mess too it would be proven - beyond reasonable doubt - you would have walked away but you didn’t, because you couldn’t

Jack Sparrow’s character is described as shrewd, calculating and eccentric. Maybe you have to know a man to play a man. We don’t know their lives anymore than our own lives. I do feel the feminist sisterhood has literally fallen it on itself - how can society pull so strongly towards him and so savagely against her? I thought we had gained some distance but watching this I’m not so sure. Even for all the money, the torn finger from the thrown bottle, even if she had affairs, filmed it all, its hell being with someone like that and it brings you to your cartilage wearing knees!
He sits there, so slickly with his awful ties, designer sunglasses, fur lined rings, tattoos, composed demeanour, where she is judged for having emotion, mocked, and hauled over - the very how dare you, ‘he’s our national pirate of a national treasure’. He may be a cockadoo of a mess but he’s our mess and says funny things like a ‘MEGA PINT’ in a deep, sardonic/demonic voice and we put posters up of him as teenagers on our ceilings and imagine him inside of us (well I certainly didn’t but you get my point)
He owns his own island in the Bahamas and hangs out with Keith Richards and gigs with Jeff Beck
And she is terrible money grabbing whore with just a puss puss
I mean, come on people!
I’m sure Johnny represent the dark underbelly that’s in all of us, our shadow selves and I’m sure Amber was drawn to it too
It simply wasn’t fair how who was represented by social media and how that is digested by so many hungry ‘little monsters’
Perhaps in the future, Depp will be seen as neither cool, nor creepy. He’s simply a hardnosed businessman who is choosing to disguise himself as a slightly deranged actor to cover his true nature and collectively, our nature
An article written by Vanity Fair by Monica Lewinsky comments ‘I wasn’t surprised that the memes about Amber Heard far out numbered those about Johnny Depp. I wasn’t surprised that the cruel and vitriolic discourse was predominantly aimed at the women.
And I shouldn’t have been surprised (but I was) that shortly after my search I began to be served suggested posts on the trial, they seemed to idolize Camille Vasquez (Depps lawyer) for her performance cross examining Heard (oh you thought we wouldn’t have any girl-on-girl action in this trial? That’s on Misogny’s greatest hits album’
Lewinsky continues ‘As Aldous Huxley put it in brave new world, we are hooked on soma, a drug that we think is making us feel better but is actually numbing us (Huxley of course wouldn’t blame us as we go about braving our new world of covid variants, monkey pox, Ukraine, politics and mass murders)
